Introduction

The Ford GT is widely regarded as one of the greatest American supercars ever created. Now, one of the important prototypes of this iconic car is set to go up for auction on September 7.

Unique Testing and Validation Tool

This particular Ford GT prototype served as a testing and validation tool for Ford, SVT, Ford Racing, and various aftermarket specialists. It was used to develop and refine the production model. It is believed to be one of only two units built after Ford started producing customer cars, with the whereabouts of the second test vehicle unknown.

Impressive Performance Upgrades

Equipped with a custom ECU and other upgrades, this prototype’s supercharged V8 engine delivers an impressive 633 horsepower and 549 lb-ft of torque. These numbers were measured at the wheels, making it significantly more powerful than the customer-delivered models.

Exterior and Interior

Unlike many other manufacturer prototypes and test vehicles, this Ford GT prototype features the same exterior and interior as the production car. It is painted in a beautiful Tungsten color with silver racing stripes, and it retains the original wheels and red brake calipers. Inside, it has black leather upholstery and an updated Pioneer head unit with Bluetooth.

Upgrades and Modifications

In addition to the performance upgrades, this prototype also features an under-drive supercharger pulley from Steeda Autosports, an ARP half-shaft bolt and washer kit, Borla long-tube headers, and a Ford Performance muffler. These enhancements further enhance the car’s performance and desirability.

Auction Details

The exact mileage of this Ford GT prototype is unknown, and the auction house, Mecum, has not disclosed the expected selling price. If you’re interested in owning a piece of automotive history, be sure to check out the online listing for more information.
