Recall Details

  • 206 vehicles in the U.S. and 12 in Canada are affected by the recall.
  • The screw holding the brake pedal to the booster may loosen.

Owners of 2019 Audi E-Tron Quattro models in the United States and Canada are urged to bring their vehicles to a dealership due to a brake pedal issue. The recall is related to a deviation in the screwdriving station at a supplier, which may result in the brake pedal detaching from the brake booster. In such cases, the emergency brake would be the only way to slow down the vehicle. Audi advises owners to consult the manual for instructions on using the emergency brake.

The recall affects a total of 206 vehicles in the U.S. manufactured between May 28, 2019, and October 23, 2019. Additionally, 12 units in Canada require repairs. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries, crashes, or fires caused by the brake pedal separation.

Audi’s Product Safety Committee became aware of the issue in February after receiving customer complaints from Europe regarding unusual brake noises and brake pedal reset. The company analyzed the problem by collecting parts from the field and production, and even sought external screwjoint experts. The decision to issue a recall was made on August 12.

Warning Signs

Owners should be alert for the following signs:

  • Unusual noise after applying and releasing the brake pedal
  • Brake pedal not returning to its original position

If these signs are observed, it is advised not to drive the vehicle until the issue has been addressed.

Repair Process

Dealerships were notified of the recall on August 21, and E-Tron owners will receive official notifications on or before October 18. The affected vehicles will have their brake boosters replaced free of charge.
