2024 BAC Mono: Familiar Appearance, Still a Track Weapon

The BAC Mono: A Lightweight Track Weapon with Updates and Improvements

The highly anticipated Monterey Car Week has brought forth a slew of exciting debuts, and one of the latest vehicles to be unveiled is the new BAC Mono. While it may appear similar to its predecessor, this new iteration has undergone extensive updates and improvements while maintaining its beloved lightweight and single-seat philosophy.

Under the hood of the new BAC Mono is a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine that boasts an impressive 311 horsepower and 231 lb-ft (313 Nm) of torque. Although this means it has slightly less power than its predecessor, which features a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 332 horsepower, it still delivers an exhilarating driving experience. Additionally, it falls short of the Mono R’s naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter Mountune engine, which produces 342 horsepower.

The small British firm behind the BAC Mono has made significant enhancements to the 2024 model’s engine. These improvements include forged connecting rods and pistons, performance-focused camshafts, uprated valve springs, an improved induction system with individual throttle bodies, and a new carbon fiber airbox and aero-optimized carbon fiber inlet. The four-cylinder engine is paired with a six-speed sequential transmission with configurable gear ratios, providing seamless power delivery to the rear wheels.

One of the standout features of the BAC Mono is its lightweight construction. All of its body panels are made from graphene-infused carbon fiber, resulting in an overall weight of just 570 kg (1,257 lbs). This remarkable weight reduction gives the car an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 546 horsepower per tonne. As a result, the BAC Mono can sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in a mere 2.7 seconds, making it a true track weapon.

To ensure optimal performance and handling, BAC has equipped the new Mono with two-way adjustable racing dampers at all four corners and an adjustable pushrod-activated twin wishbone system. Additionally, owners have the option to purchase the Mono with specific Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires that have been specially developed for this high-performance machine.

According to BAC chairman Mike Flewitt, launching the new Mono at Monterey Car Week perfectly showcases the company’s trajectory. He stated, “Not only is this the first time the company has been in an official capacity at Monterey Car Week, but we have chosen this iconic setting to show the world our latest high-performance single-seater creation.” Flewitt emphasized that the Mono prioritizes driver experience, whether on the road or the track.

Production of the new BAC Mono has already commenced, and the first unit will be delivered after this weekend’s The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering. Enthusiasts and collectors alike can look forward to experiencing the thrill of this lightweight track-focused machine.

In conclusion, the new BAC Mono is a testament to the brand’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. With its updated engine, lightweight construction, and enhanced performance features, it is poised to deliver an unparalleled driving experience. Whether you’re a track enthusiast or simply appreciate the art of automotive engineering, the BAC Mono is a true standout in its class. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new release from BAC.
