Ford to Revive the Capri Nameplate for New Electric Crossover

Introduction

Ford is set to bring back the iconic Capri nameplate for its upcoming electric crossover, which will be based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform. The new Capri, a sibling to the Ford Explorer, will directly compete with models like the Volkswagen ID 5, Volvo C40, and Peugeot e-3008. Spy shots of the vehicle reveal that it will have a raised saloon-like design, similar to the Polestar 2, with unique LED headlights inspired by later Capris.

Technical Specifications

The new Capri is expected to share its technical underpinnings with the Explorer, offering three electric powertrain options ranging from 168bhp to 335bhp. It will be equipped with either a 52kWh or a 77kWh battery pack, providing a maximum range of around 300 miles. The vehicle will also support fast charging at speeds of up to 170kW.

Production and Launch

The Capri will be produced alongside the Explorer at Ford’s Fiesta factory in Cologne, Germany. Originally planned to launch six months after the Explorer, the Capri’s release may be delayed due to new battery legislation. However, Ford aims to bring both models to the market closer together than initially anticipated.
