2024 Ford F-150 Recall: Steering Issue

Ford Recalls 2024 F-150 Trucks

Ford has issued a recall for several hundred 2024 F-150 trucks due to a potential safety issue with the lower steering shaft.

Factory Error Leads to Steering Concerns

An error at the Kansas City Assembly Plant resulted in the incorrect fastener being used in the lower steering shaft assembly. This mistake could cause the fastener to loosen over time, leading to a complete loss of steering control.

No Accidents Reported Yet

Despite the potential danger, Ford has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this issue.

Root Cause of the Problem

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) discovered that an incorrect fastener was used to attach the lower steering shaft to the steering gear. This could result in the fastener loosening and disengaging, causing a loss of control over the steering system.

Investigation Reveals Mix-Up

An investigation initiated on April 11 revealed a mix-up of fasteners with different sizes and material types at the Kansas City Assembly Plant. The error was attributed to a box of fasteners intended for another use being delivered to the assembly station.

Recall Details

Ford plans to replace the lower steering shaft fastener on the affected 385 trucks. Owners will be notified later this month about the recall. Despite the small number of impacted vehicles, safety remains a top priority for the best-selling vehicle in America.
