2024 Ford Mustang GT: Impressive Power and Distinctive Sound Revealed through Dyno Runs

The 2024 Ford Mustang GT: Power and Performance on the Dyno

The new S650 Ford Mustang is set to continue the legacy of its predecessors, despite the growing popularity of electrified and battery-electric vehicles. But does it have enough power to satisfy enthusiasts? Ford claims that the 2024 Mustang GT, equipped with a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated Coyote V8 engine, produces 486 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque. To put these figures to the test, Middleton Motorsports decided to strap a 2024 GT Convertible onto their dyno.

Testing the Mustang with the available 10-speed automatic transmission isn’t ideal for accurately measuring its power output. The best gear to test it in would be seventh gear, which has a 1:1 ratio. However, hitting the redline in seventh gear would result in hitting the electronic speed limiter. As a result, the shop had to test the pony car in fifth gear, which has a 1.520:1 ratio, affecting the horsepower and torque figures.

The first dyno run showed that the car produced 397 horsepower and 352 lb-ft of torque at the wheels. In the second run, the engine proved to be slightly stronger, reaching a peak of 408 horsepower while torque remained consistent at 351 lb-ft. The third and final run resulted in 405 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque.

According to Middleton Motorsport, the car reached its peak power at 7,200 rpm. Similar to older Coyote engines, it delivers a smooth and consistent powerband. It’s worth noting that the tested Mustang had less than 1,000 miles on it, and the shop expects it to deliver even more power once it surpasses that mark. They estimate that if they had been able to perform a full run in seventh gear, the Mustang would likely have produced around 420 horsepower at the wheels.

The dyno runs not only confirmed the Mustang’s power output but also highlighted its unique sound. The Coyote V8 engine has a distinct growl that adds to the overall driving experience. To get a better sense of the Mustang’s power and sound, check out the video below:

In conclusion, the 2024 Ford Mustang GT lives up to its reputation as a powerful and thrilling sports car. With its updated Coyote V8 engine and various performance enhancements, it delivers impressive horsepower and torque figures. While the dyno runs showed slightly lower numbers than Ford’s claims, it’s important to consider the testing conditions and gear limitations. Overall, the Mustang GT remains a top choice for enthusiasts seeking a combination of power, performance, and iconic design.

If you’re in the market for a new sports car, the 2024 Ford Mustang GT should definitely be on your radar. Its timeless appeal, exhilarating performance, and the unmistakable sound of its V8 engine make it a standout option in its class. Whether you’re a long-time Mustang fan or a newcomer to the brand, the 2024 Mustang GT is sure to impress with its power and performance on both the road and the dyno.
