2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Gearbox Issue: Vehicle Rollaway Risk | Giga Gears

Hyundai Recalls 2024 Santa Fe Crossovers Due to Transmission Software Issue

Recall Details

Hyundai is recalling more than 13,000 2024 Santa Fe crossovers in the United States and Canada. The vehicles are equipped with faulty transmission software that can damage the gearbox and enable the crossover to rollaway when in park. Hyundai is aware of at least 45 incidents in the United States alone.

Recall Impact

Hyundai is on a roll in more ways than one as the company is recalling 12,349 Santa Fe crossovers that could rollaway while in park. The recall impacts the redesigned 2024 model and comes after multiple reports of unintended vehicle movement.

Safety Concerns

The safety recall report states that the vehicles are equipped with a dual-clutch transmission that could be damaged due to faulty transmission control software. This could inadvertently engage the clutches and damage the transmission case and/or parking pawl, leading to potential rollaway issues even when in park.

Fix and Resolution

Since this is a software issue, the fix is straightforward. Dealers will install updated transmission control software and replace the gearbox if necessary. Hyundai assures that the issue has not caused any injuries, crashes, or fires in the United States.

Recall in Canada

The recall also affects Canadian owners, with 806 vehicles impacted. The fix process in Canada mirrors that of the United States, with dealers inspecting and replacing the transmission as well as updating the transmission control unit software.
