Mercedes-Benz E-Class Models Recalled Due to Potential Shutdown Risk

Several hundred Mercedes-Benz E-Class models in the United States are facing a recall due to a serious safety issue that could lead to unexpected shutdowns while driving, increasing the risk of accidents.

Recall Details

  • The recall affects 396 Mercedes-Benz E350 and E450 models.
  • According to the NHTSA recall notice, dealers will address the poorly routed wiring harness.
  • Mercedes-Benz has not reported any incidents related to this issue.

Transmission Wiring Harness Concern

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notice for certain 2024 Mercedes-Benz E350 4Matic, E450 4Matic All-Terrain, and E450 4Matic models. The transmission wiring harness in these vehicles could come into contact with the front drive shaft over time, potentially causing damage and resulting in a loss of vehicle power.

Issue Resolution

Mercedes attributes the problem to a deviation in the development and production process that led to the wiring harness being routed too close to the drive shaft. While affected owners may receive a warning message on the instrument cluster, there is no advanced warning of an imminent failure.

Recall Scope

A total of 396 vehicles in the U.S. are included in the recall, all of which were manufactured between April 27, 2023, and January 29, 2024. Mercedes initiated an investigation after discovering contact between the wiring harness and drive shaft in one of its internal vehicles. No warranty claims, field reports, or injuries related to this issue have been reported.

Next Steps

Dealerships were notified of the recall on March 29, and affected owners will be informed before May 21. Mechanics will inspect the wiring harness routing and make necessary adjustments to prevent potential failures.
