Peugeot Unveils Facelifted 208: A Closer Look at the Updates

Peugeot has recently unveiled the facelifted version of its popular hatch, the Peugeot 208. While the previous model was already well-received, the French carmaker has gone above and beyond with this update, making the new 208 even more appealing to car enthusiasts.

Visual Updates

One of the first things that catch your eye with the facelifted 208 is the tweaked front fascia. Peugeot’s designers have incorporated the same light signature as seen on the 9X8 Hypercar, featuring three long vertical light claws that extend down and over the gloss black bumper inserts. These new lights are present in all variants of the 208, but in the GT version, they extend further into the full LED headlights, which have also been updated.

In addition to the front changes, the facelifted 208 now boasts a new LED light bar with “three juxtaposed red claws.” Gloss black mirrors come as standard on all versions, and buyers can choose from seven body colors, including Agueda Yellow, Selenium Grey, Artense Grey, Perla Black, Banquise White, Elixir Red, and Vertigo Blue. The GT version also offers black wheel arches and an optional black roof.

The visual updates continue with new 16-inch and 17-inch wheel designs, updated lettering on the front, side, and rear, and a revamped interior. The interior now features new seat fabrics, including black Alcantara with Adamite Green stitching. But that’s not all – a 10-inch digital gauge cluster is now standard on Allure and GT models, along with a 10-inch infotainment screen across the entire 208 range. The steering wheel has also been updated with the new Peugeot logo, and models equipped with the six-speed manual transmission receive a new shift knob.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Peugeot has equipped the new 208 with its i-Connect system as standard, while the i-Connect Advanced infotainment system is available as an option. Both systems are controlled through the new 10-inch display, which includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Allure and GT models also come with three USB-C sockets, a more powerful wireless charger, and high-definition front and rear parking cameras.

Powertrain Options

The all-electric E-208 is perhaps the most significant addition to the 208 lineup. It features a 51 kWh battery pack and an electric motor with 156 hp, offering a range of 400 km (248 miles) on the WLTP cycle. The E-208 comes standard with a 7.4 kW single-phase charger, with an optional 11 kW three-phase charger available. Charging from 20% to 80% takes less than 25 minutes with a fast charger.

For those not interested in an electric vehicle, Peugeot offers hybrid and internal combustion engine (ICE) options. Hybrid models feature a 48-volt system paired with PureTech petrol engines producing either 100 hp or 136 hp. ICE models come with a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine, available in two power outputs: 75 hp and 100 hp. The PureTech 75 comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the PureTech 100 is equipped with a 6-speed manual.

Safety Features

Peugeot has prioritized safety in the facelifted 208, with a range of standard features across all variants. These include adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, active lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and a driver attention alert system.

Pricing and Availability

As of now, Peugeot has not released any information regarding the pricing or availability of the new 208 and E-208. However, based on the updates and improvements, it is safe to say that the facelifted 208 has the potential to be even more popular than its predecessor.

In conclusion, Peugeot has taken an already successful hatchback and made it even better with the facelifted 208. From the striking visual updates to the enhanced infotainment and connectivity features, as well as the range of powertrain options, the new 208 is poised to make a significant impact in the market. Car enthusiasts and Peugeot fans alike can look forward to experiencing this upgraded hatchback firsthand once pricing and availability details are announced.
