2024 Skoda Kodiaq PHEV Gets Updated Look | Giga Gears

The Skoda Kodiaq is set to receive a significant update for its second generation, with refreshed exterior styling and interior upgrades. Skoda has released sketches of the new design ahead of the crossover’s full reveal on October 4th.

Exterior Design Upgrades

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq will feature a sharper front end with the brand’s traditional black grille and chunkier, squared-off wheel arches. LED headlights will also be included in the front design. At the rear, the 2024 Kodiaq will have a new bumper and light design, with the Skoda name prominently displayed. Wheel options will range from 17 to 18 inches. The overall design of the Kodiaq is described as “modern and dynamic, with a strikingly distinctive look.”

Interior Enhancements

The interior of the new Kodiaq has generated significant interest. The latest images reveal that the crossover will retain physical dial controls for critical functions. The three dials, located between the center console and dashboard, can be customized to control various functions. For example, the dials on either side of the front occupants can manage cabin temperature, seat heating or ventilation, according to user preference. The central controller can alter fan speed, air direction, sound system volume, driving mode, or sat-nav map zoom.

In addition to the dial controls, the Kodiaq will feature a large 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10-inch digital instrument display. The automatic gear selector has been moved from the center console to a stalk on the steering wheel, providing more legroom for front occupants. Connectivity is also emphasized in the design, with USB-C ports integrated into the rear-view mirror and center console, along with a 15W wireless phone-charging box.

Performance and Options

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq will continue to share parts with other Volkswagen Group models, including the new VW Tiguan. At launch, there will be two petrol and two diesel engine options. All engines will come with a smooth-shifting DSG gearbox as standard, as it was the preferred choice for 97% of Kodiaq buyers. The entry-level petrol engine is a 148bhp 1.5-liter Evo2 mild-hybrid, which offers improved refinement and fuel efficiency. There is also a more powerful 201bhp 2.0-liter TSI petrol option for those seeking more performance.

For diesel options, there is a 148bhp 2.0-liter diesel engine with strong low-end torque, suitable for hauling a fully loaded Kodiaq. The top-tier diesel engine is a 190bhp variant, which offers a quieter cabin experience and comes with seven seats and four-wheel drive.

In summer 2024, a plug-in hybrid version of the Kodiaq will be available, featuring a petrol engine, an electric motor, and a 26kWh battery that provides an electric range of around 60 miles.

Driving Experience

The new Kodiaq offers a comfortable and refined driving experience. Adaptive suspension, known as Dynamic Chassis Control Pro, allows drivers to adjust the ride stiffness according to their preferences. The Progressive Steering system provides precise and responsive steering at low speeds, making maneuvering easier. The Kodiaq’s drivability is well-suited for a practical family SUV, with less body roll and more fluent steering compared to competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe or Peugeot 5008.

Conclusion

The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq brings significant upgrades to its exterior and interior design. With its refreshed styling, customizable dial controls, advanced infotainment system, and improved driving dynamics, the new Kodiaq is set to appeal to a wide range of customers. The crossover will offer a choice of petrol and diesel engines, with a plug-in hybrid option arriving later. The Kodiaq’s release is highly anticipated, and it is expected to build on the success of its predecessor as one of Skoda’s best-selling models.
