Toyota Reveals Pricing and Specifications for New C-HR Crossover

Toyota has announced the pricing, equipment, and engine specifications for its highly anticipated second-generation C-HR crossover. The new C-HR aims to attract new customers to the brand with its radical styling and innovative features. One of the key highlights of the new model is the introduction of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, offering customers a more eco-friendly option.

The range starts with the Icon trim level, priced at £31,290. This entry-level model comes equipped with 17-inch alloys, cloth upholstery, a seven-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay, and a range of safety systems. Stepping up to the Design trim level adds an additional £3,395 to the price and includes 18-inch alloys, a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system, and a panoramic sunroof. For those looking for even more luxury and performance, the Excel trim level offers 19-inch alloys, a JBL sound system, and front sports seats, all for £38,150.

The Icon, Design, and Excel trim levels are available with a 1.8-liter hybrid powertrain. This powertrain combines a 97bhp petrol engine with a 94bhp electric motor, delivering a total output of 138bhp. The same powertrain is also used in the new Toyota Prius. With front-wheel drive, this hybrid powertrain achieves an impressive fuel efficiency of 56.5-58.9mpg on the WLTP cycle. Toyota’s product manager, Andrea Carlucci, emphasized the importance of this entry-level powertrain in maintaining the model’s accessibility.

The two highest trim levels, GR Sport and Premiere Edition, offer even more features and performance. Priced at £40,645 and £42,720 respectively, these trim levels provide customers with a sportier and more luxurious driving experience. The GR Sport and Premiere Edition models are available with two 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid petrol engines. The first option increases power output to 198bhp, while the second option adds four-wheel drive capability and achieves a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds. Both options offer impressive fuel efficiency, with upwards of 53mpg.

The new C-HR features a striking design that is inspired by the C-HR Prologue concept. It is the first SUV in Toyota’s European lineup to showcase the brand’s new “hammerhead” front-end design, which was first introduced in the latest Toyota Prius. Higher-grade trim levels enhance the design further with larger alloy wheels and two-tone paintwork.

One of the standout features of the GR Sport and Premiere Edition models is the geofencing technology. This innovative technology automatically switches the car to EV mode when it detects that the vehicle has entered a low-emission zone, provided there is enough power in the battery. The plug-in hybrid option also offers an electric-only range of 41 miles, making it an attractive choice for eco-conscious drivers.

The C-HR has been a popular choice for customers, with nearly 100,000 units sold in Europe last year. In the UK alone, the C-HR sold almost 18,000 units in 2021, compared to just 563 units of the Toyota Prius. The success of the C-HR played a role in the decision not to bring the new Prius to the UK market.

With its bold design, advanced technology, and range of trim levels and powertrain options, the new Toyota C-HR is set to continue its success in the crossover segment. Whether customers are looking for a stylish and efficient hybrid or a sportier plug-in hybrid option, the C-HR offers something for everyone.
