Introduction

Can a cut-price approved used electric Porsche match the richly satisfying ownership experience of a new one? This is the question we aim to answer as we welcome a ‘used’ Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo from the manufacturer’s approved used scheme to our Autocar test fleet. In this article, we will explore the advantages of buying a used electric car and the value proposition it offers compared to a new purchase.

Life with a Porsche Taycan: Month 1

Welcoming the Taycan to the fleet

When it comes to the second-hand market for electric cars, opinions may vary. However, the addition of this ‘used’ Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo to our fleet challenges any preconceived notions. This early 23-plate car, with just under 9000 miles on the clock and a known ownership history, offers a comparative bargain route into owning one of our favorite electric cars.

Despite the sharp devaluation of most electric cars, the Porsche Taycan holds its value relatively well. Compared to its initial price of £90,438 in 2023, this used Taycan is now valued at around £68,000. This presents an attractive opportunity for savvy used car buyers who want to experience the thrill of owning a Porsche and one of the best electric cars on the market.

While a brand-new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N could be an alternative at a similar price point, the allure of owning an EV with Porsche’s signature sheen is hard to resist. However, the used EV market has faced challenges due to the ZEV mandate, lack of tax breaks for used EVs, and an increasing number of ex-fleet and PCP examples flooding the market.

Despite these challenges, the time is ripe to explore the previously owned approach to buying an EV. The Porsche Taycan has proven to be one of our favorite electric cars, and the improvements introduced in the recent facelifted model only enhance its appeal. We aim to evaluate the ownership experience for used buyers attracted by the discounted prices and assess whether a used Porsche Taycan can deliver the same satisfaction as a new one.
