2024 VW Passat B9 Sedan: Missed Opportunities | Giga Gears

The Imaginary VW Passat B9 Sedan: A Sleek and Stylish Rendering

As Volkswagen made the decision to discontinue the sedan body style for the ninth-generation European Passat, rendering artist Theottle has given us a glimpse of what a sedan version of the 2024 Passat might have looked like. By digitally transposing a sedan silhouette onto the new Passat B9 Variant, Theottle has created a surprisingly realistic and stylish four-door vehicle.

Drawing inspiration from other VW products, such as the Chinese-spec Lamando L, Theottle’s rendering showcases a sedan with a sleeker tail and a more aerodynamic profile. While it’s unlikely that VW will ever produce a Passat B9 sedan, this rendering allows us to imagine what could have been.

The imaginary Passat B9 sedan retains the same 2,841 mm (111.9 inches) wheelbase as the Variant, a common characteristic in such conversions. However, the trade-off for the sleeker appearance would be a slightly reduced trunk space, likely falling below the Variant’s 690-liter (24.4 cu-ft) capacity.

If the Passat B9 sedan were to exist, it would share powertrain options with its more practical sibling. These options include various petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid configurations. Among them, the plug-in hybrid stands out as the most technologically advanced. Combining a turbocharged 1.5-liter TSI engine with a single electric motor and a larger 19.7 kWh battery pack, the PHEV variant would deliver a maximum output of 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and an impressive all-electric range of 100 km (62 miles).

While traditional sedan enthusiasts may miss the VW Passat sedan, they will soon have access to an attractive and mechanically related alternative in the form of the Skoda Superb. Skoda plans to introduce notchback and Combi versions of its new flagship that will closely mirror the specifications of the VW Passat Variant.

Although this rendering is not affiliated with or approved by Volkswagen, it provides a tantalizing glimpse into what the sedan version of the 2024 Passat could have looked like. The sleek and stylish design, inspired by other VW models, showcases a vehicle that would have turned heads on the road.

The full-width taillight cluster of the Lamando L, which complements the Passat nicely, has been adjusted to align with the graphics of the Variant. Additionally, the integrated spoiler has been modified to give it a more conventional appearance, deviating from the liftback design of the Lamando L.

While we may never have the opportunity to purchase a Passat B9 sedan, Theottle’s rendering allows us to appreciate the potential beauty and elegance of such a vehicle. The sleek silhouette and aerodynamic profile would have undoubtedly added a touch of sophistication to the Passat lineup.

In conclusion, Theottle’s rendering of the imaginary VW Passat B9 sedan showcases a sleek and stylish four-door vehicle that could have been. While it’s unlikely that VW will ever produce such a sedan, this rendering allows us to imagine what could have been and appreciate the potential beauty of a sedan version of the 2024 Passat.
