Chevrolet Unveils All-New Corvette ZR1

  • The Corvette ZR1 boasts a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 engine with 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque.
  • Expected top speed of over 215 mph.

Surpassing the Bugatti Veyron

The Bugatti Veyron, known for its powerful W16 engine producing 987 hp, is now being surpassed by the Corvette ZR1.

Hypercar Performance

The Corvette ZR1 features a twin-turbo 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine, delivering a staggering 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque. These numbers surpass competitors such as the Ferrari 296 GTB, 12Cilindri, SF90 Stradale, Lamborghini Revuelto, McLaren 750S, Pagani Huayra, and Mercedes-AMG One. Chevrolet proudly claims that the ZR1 has the most powerful V8 engine ever produced in America by an automotive manufacturer.

Engine and Transmission Upgrades

The ZR1’s engine, known as the LT7, has been extensively upgraded to handle the twin-turbochargers and added performance. The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been revised to handle the massive torque of the LT7.

Impressive Speed and Acceleration

The ZR1 is expected to comfortably exceed a top speed of 215 mph. During testing, four drivers reached speeds of 200 mph on the Nürburgring. On the drag strip, the ZR1 is estimated to complete the quarter mile in under 9.7 seconds at 150 mph.

A Sporty, Functional Design

The ZR1 features aerodynamic enhancements such as a flow-through hood, carbon fiber components, and a rear wing. The optional ZTK performance package further enhances the car’s track capabilities with a massive rear wing, front dive planes, and other aerodynamic tweaks.

Familiar Interior with Special Touches

The ZR1’s interior remains largely unchanged from the C8 Corvette, but it includes ZR1 badging, a boost gauge, and unique stitching on the 3LZ variant. The car is equipped with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment system with Google integration, and carbon fiber trim.

Arriving Next Year

The Corvette ZR1 will go into production next year in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pricing details have not been announced yet, but the ZR1 is expected to be priced above the Z06, which starts at $110,100.
