“2025 Ford Equator Models in China Get New Look and PHEV Option”

The New 2025 Ford Equator and Equator Sport: What’s Different?

Ford is gearing up to introduce the updated versions of the Chinese-market Equator and Equator Sport midsize SUVs. These models, produced through the JMC-Ford joint venture in China, are set to receive refreshed styling and a new plug-in hybrid option.

Visual Updates

The facelifted Equator Sport and Equator Sport now feature distinctive design elements that make them easier to distinguish from each other. The focus of the visual updates is primarily on the front end, with the larger Equator also receiving a redesigned rear end.

Powertrain Options

When it comes to powertrain options, the Equator Sport will offer a choice between an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), while the Equator is expected to be available in a PHEV-only configuration.

Exterior Changes

The Equator boasts a smaller grille, sleek LED headlights, and simpler bumper intakes at the front. In contrast, the Equator Sport features a more sculpted front end with a dark-finished area adorned with a honeycomb pattern. At the rear, the Equator sports new full-width LED taillights, while the Equator Sport retains its previous design with a revised diffuser.

Dimensions

The facelifted Equator Sport is 55 mm longer than its predecessor, measuring 4,685 mm in length. On the other hand, the larger Equator has grown by 15 mm, reaching a length of 4,920 mm.

New Plug-in Hybrid Option

One of the significant updates for Chinese consumers is the introduction of a new plug-in hybrid powertrain for both models. This setup combines a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor to deliver a total output of 215 hp. The energy is stored in a lithium iron phosphate battery pack manufactured by CATL.

While the official unveiling of the 2025 Ford Equator and Equator Sport is yet to happen, early photos and specifications have surfaced, giving us a glimpse of what to expect. Stay tuned for more details as these models are set to hit the Chinese market later this year.
