“2025 Kia EV5: Starting at $20,900 in China, Competing with Tesla Model Y”

Kia EV5: Affordable Electric SUV with Impressive Range

Pricing Details for the 2025 Kia EV5 Revealed in China

Kia has recently launched the new EV5 in China and announced the pricing details for its three available grades: the 530 Light, the 530 Air, and the 530 Land. The base model, starting at just 149,800 yuan (~$20,900), offers an affordable alternative to the Tesla Model Y, which starts at 266,400 yuan. Let’s take a closer look at what the entry-level EV5 has to offer.

Impressive Specifications and Range

The entry-level EV5 is equipped with BYD’s LFP Blade battery, boasting a capacity of 64.2 kWh. It features a 160 kW (215 hp) electric motor, delivering 229 lb-ft (310 Nm) of torque. On the generous Chinese test cycle, it offers an impressive range of 329 miles (530 km). Although the differences between the Light, Air, and Land models are not yet clear, it seems that they all share the same powertrain.

Options for More Power and Range

For those seeking additional power and range, Kia will also offer the EV5 with a larger 88 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. This variant maintains the same 160 kW (215 hp) motor but provides an extended range of 447 miles (720 km). Additionally, there are rumors of a dual-motor powertrain option, combining a 160 kW (215 hp) front electric motor with a 70 kW (94 hp) rear motor, along with the 88 kWh battery. Pricing details for these variants have not yet been announced.

Stylish Design and Spacious Interior

The Kia EV5 draws inspiration from its larger sibling, the EV9, and features a length of 4,615 mm (181.7 inches) and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm (108.3 inches). This places it in a similar category as the Kia Sportage. Inside the cabin, you’ll find a modern design with a digital dashboard integrating a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a 5-inch climate control panel, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. The steering wheel is four-spoke and chunky, while touch-sensitive buttons on the dashboard provide easy access to essential infotainment and climate control functions.

Availability

While the Kia EV5 will be available in various markets, including China, its availability in the United States has not yet been confirmed.
