2025 Kia EV5 to Offer GT Version with New Details | Giga Gears

Kia EV5: Powertrain Details and Global Rollout Confirmed

Kia has recently provided more information about the highly anticipated EV5 during its first annual EV Day. The Korean automaker confirmed the powertrain specifics of the mid-sized SUV and announced that it will be available in markets outside of China. Additionally, Kia revealed that a hot EV5 GT version is in the works.

The EV5 was first unveiled to the public at the Chengdu Motor Show in China back in August. It is the third offering in Kia’s all-electric lineup and takes design inspiration from its larger sibling, the EV9.

Initially, the EV5 will be launched in China, followed by a global rollout. The Chinese-market EV5 will be produced domestically and will be offered in three variations: Standard, Long-Range, and Long-Range AWD. The global model, manufactured in Korea, will also have the same variation titles but with different specifications.

In China, the Standard model will come with a 64 kWh battery pack and a 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) motor, providing a range of 530 km (360 miles) on the optimistic China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle. The global Standard model will feature a slightly smaller 58 kWh battery but will have the same 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) motor driving the front wheels.

Both Chinese and global market long-range models of the EV5 will feature the same 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) motor, with the only difference being battery size. Chinese consumers will enjoy an 88 kWh battery, offering a CLTC range of 720 km (447 miles). The rest of the world will have an 81 kWh battery pack, with range estimates yet to be announced.

The Long Range AWD EV5, available for both Chinese and Korean-built models, will have an additional 70 kW (95 PS / 94 hp) motor to power the rear axle. However, the Chinese model will have a combined output of 230 kW (313 PS / 308 hp), slightly higher than the global model’s 225 kW (306 PS / 302 hp). Kia also mentioned that the China-made EV5 will support DC fast charging from 30 to 80 percent in just 27 minutes.

All EV5 models will feature a heat pump, similar to the one found in the EV6, and Kia’s i-Pedal system for one-pedal driving.

Inside the cabin, the 2025 Kia EV5 will showcase the brand’s latest interface applied to all screens, ensuring seamless connectivity. The cluster and infotainment system will be displayed on two 12.3-inch screens, while a separate 5.0-inch climate control display will also be present.

Excitingly, Kia is also working on a hot “GT” version of the EV5. Although no specific details or release timeframe were provided, this variant is expected to offer enhanced performance and sportier features.

With its powertrain specifics confirmed and a global rollout planned, the Kia EV5 is set to make a significant impact in the electric SUV market. Its sleek design, impressive range, and advanced features make it a compelling choice for eco-conscious consumers worldwide. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting electric vehicle from Kia.
