The Revitalized Lancia Brand: Introducing the Ypsilon Supermini

Stellantis Brings Back Lancia as a Premium Product

Stellantis, the Italian automaker, is reviving the once-great Lancia brand with a new focus on premium vehicles. The first car to be launched under this new era is the Ypsilon supermini. Scheduled for release in February, the Ypsilon aims to capture the attention of the car-buying public in Europe.

The Ypsilon: A Modern Electric Supermini

Based on the e-CMP Stellantis platform, which is also used in the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, the new Ypsilon replaces the brand’s outdated hatchback model. It introduces electric power to the Ypsilon lineup for the first time, with mild-hybrid combustion versions available until Lancia transitions to an all-electric lineup in 2028.

Impressive Performance and Range

The Ypsilon is expected to feature a similar electric setup as the e-208, including a 154 hp electric motor and a 51 kWh battery. With a range of approximately 248 miles (400 km) and the ability to accept 100 kW at charging points, the Ypsilon promises both efficiency and convenience. It is estimated to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just over 8 seconds.

Distinctive Styling and Luxurious Interior

Setting itself apart from its Stellantis siblings, the Lancia Ypsilon boasts unique styling and luxurious trim both inside and out. While the front end remains camouflaged, teaser images suggest an angular look with a prominent hood edge. The rear end features a notchback design, adding a touch of traditional sedan styling to appeal to conservative buyers.

Inside the cabin, the Ypsilon emphasizes luxury with its mix of leather and velour seats. The headrests proudly display the “Lancia” name, while a circular pad below the infotainment touchscreen adds a unique touch. This pad, known as the “tavolino,” serves as a wireless phone charging pad and adds a nostalgic touch reminiscent of home.

The Future of Lancia

The Ypsilon marks the beginning of Lancia’s revival, with plans for future models already in motion. In 2026, the Lancia Gamma electric crossover will join the lineup, followed by a Delta EV hatch in 2028. These models will further expand Lancia’s presence in the European market.
