BMW M5: The New Safety Car for MotoGP
Introduction
The new BMW M5 made its first public appearance as the Safety Car for MotoGP at the recent San Marino Grand Prix. This marks the 27th season that BMW has provided safety cars for the premier class of motorcycle racing. The M5 joins a prestigious lineup of BMW M models that have served as safety cars in the past, including the M2, M3 Touring, and the XM Label Red. BMW aims to demonstrate that even its heaviest creations are capable of leading the field.
Special Livery
The exterior of the M5 Safety Car features a unique livery inspired by the M Hybrid endurance race car. The body is predominantly matte black, with accents of white, blue, red, and purple. The aggressive design and bold wheel arches give the car a menacing appearance.
BMW M Award
The winner of this year’s BMW M Award, given to the best qualifier of the MotoGP season, will receive a brand new M5. This annual competition has been running for over 20 years, and it is the second time that an electrified M model is the top prize. Last year, Francesco Bagnaia won the award and took home a BMW XM Label Red.
Powerful Performance
The latest-generation M5 is powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, delivering 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. In addition, a hybrid system and electric motor provide extra power, resulting in a total output of 717 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.
