“2025 Rivian R1 Models Upgrade to LFP Battery and Heat Pump, Leak Shows”

2025 Rivian Models: What You Need to Know

Introduction

A leaked document certifying the 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S in the U.S. has revealed significant changes to the flagship models. Let’s dive into the details.

Battery Pack Update

Rivian is ditching the existing 105.9 kWh Standard Range battery pack in favor of a smaller 92.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. This change results in a weight reduction from 796 kg to 727 kg.

Range Figures

Real-world range figures for the 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S models are yet to be determined by the EPA. However, Rivian claims that the Dual Standard models with 20-inch wheels can achieve 380 miles in the city and 322 miles on the highway. Equipping them with 22-inch wheels increases the range to 405 miles in the city and 340 miles on the highway.

Charging Capabilities

The 2025 R1 models support 210 kW fast charging, similar to the outgoing models. Despite offering Tesla Supercharger support, Rivian continues to use CCS ports.

Additional Updates

Other changes include the discontinuation of the 21-inch wheel option, leaving only 20-inch and 22-inch options available. The 2025 models now come standard with heat pumps, and the AC compressor has been relocated for improved NVH performance.

Launch Details

While it’s unclear when the updated 2025 R1T and R1S will debut, a potential launch could coincide with Rivian’s investor day on June 27.
