2025 Volkswagen Golf R and Golf R Variant Spotted Testing with Minimal Disguise

The highly anticipated facelifted Volkswagen Golf R and Golf R Variant have been caught testing with minimal camouflage. The upcoming models showcase a few design changes that hint at an updated and more modern look.

Subtle Changes in Design

The front bumper of the test vehicles features ‘fake’ angular accents covered in white tape to deceive casual observers into thinking it’s the current Golf R. However, the production models will have a revised intake with two horizontal bars spanning the width of the vehicle. The angular accents will be less pronounced and positioned on either side of a central sensor.

Additionally, the cars boast evolutionary headlights that are slightly smaller than before. These headlights are connected by a slimmer illuminated band, with part of the “R” badge hanging off.

Interior Upgrades

While the exterior changes are relatively minor, the cabin of the facelifted Golf R is expected to receive a significant technological upgrade. Previous prototypes have been spotted with a larger and more modern infotainment system, possibly shared with the ID.7 and Passat Variant models. This suggests that the Golf R could come equipped with a spacious 15-inch display.

Potential Performance Boost

The current Golf R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing up to 315 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It remains to be seen if the facelifted model will receive a performance boost, but there’s a possibility considering the Golf R Performance variant already offers 329 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The current Golf R accelerates from 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 168 mph.

Overall, the upcoming Volkswagen Golf R and Golf R Variant promise to deliver an updated design and enhanced technology, making them highly anticipated models in the hot hatch segment.
