Citroën to Unveil Next-Generation ë-C3 Electric Car

Citroën has confirmed that the next-generation, all-electric Citroën C3, known as the ë-C3, will be unveiled on October 17th. The new model is expected to be priced below €25,000 in Europe, making it the cheapest electric car currently available in the UK.

The ë-C3 will have a range of over 186 miles and will be part of a C3 line-up that includes both electric and combustion power options. Despite being an electric vehicle, it will have the same dimensions as the outgoing combustion-engined C3.

The styling of the ë-C3 is inspired by the Oli concept car, featuring similar lighting signatures to the forward-thinking pick-up. The car will be fully equipped with air conditioning and electric windows, and it will be underpinned by a BEV-native platform.

Citroën CEO Thierry Koskas emphasized the importance of the C3 to the brand’s range, with sales exceeding 5.5 million since its introduction. The company is seeking worldwide expansion with the new C3.

Koskas also plans to simplify the C3 range, offering three levels with a maximum of five options each. This simplicity aims to aid buyers who often find range complexity confusing and frustrating. It will also streamline production at Citroën’s factory in Slovakia.

In addition to simplifying the range, Koskas aims to offer fair price transparency to reduce discounting. While prices will not be frozen, maintaining them at near-quoted levels is seen as a matter of discipline.

While there is no firm news yet on UK prices or launch date, the ë-C3 is expected to reach the market soon after its release in France.

Opinion: Citroën Leading the Charge for Affordable EVs

In recent years, there has been a fear that European car manufacturers would focus on building expensive electric vehicles, allowing rivals, particularly Chinese manufacturers, to capture the low-end EV market. Citroën is now launching a fightback with the ë-C3, an affordable and European-made EV.

The ë-C3 will reinforce the limited range of small European EVs, such as the Renault Zoe, at a considerably lower price point. This move positions Citroën as a leader in the affordable EV market.

This strategic move by Citroën is ideal for spearheading a new marketing campaign for the brand. It showcases their commitment to providing affordable electric vehicles while maintaining their reputation for innovation and design.

Citroën’s legacy as the creator of the iconic 2CV, which was built from 1948, adds to the significance of this new electric offering. The ë-C3 represents a continuation of Citroën’s legacy of producing accessible and practical vehicles that meet the needs of everyday drivers.

As Europe’s car market continues to evolve, Citroën’s focus on affordability and practicality will position them as a key player in the electric vehicle industry. By offering a competitively priced electric car with a range that meets the needs of most drivers, Citroën is leading the charge for affordable EVs.

In conclusion, the upcoming ë-C3 from Citroën is set to make waves in the electric vehicle market. With its affordable price point, impressive range, and stylish design, it is poised to become a popular choice for eco-conscious consumers. Citroën’s commitment to simplicity and fair pricing further enhances its appeal. As the brand continues to expand its global presence, the ë-C3 will play a crucial role in establishing Citroën as a leader in the affordable EV segment.
