Runaway Zeekr X Electric Car Injures Five at Chinese Auto Show

Five individuals, including a child, sustained injuries when a Zeekr X electric car struck them at the 2024 Nanjing International New Energy Vehicles Exhibition. The incident occurred when the EV, built by Zeekr, was on display at the auto show.

Accident Details

The Zeekr X suddenly moved forward, hitting multiple attendees at the exhibition. Two of the injured individuals required medical attention following the collision. Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported in this incident.

Video Footage

Video footage from the scene shows the Zeekr X colliding with several vehicles on display at the show. The damage caused by the runaway EV appears to be minor, but all vehicles involved will need repairs.

Zeekr’s Response

Following the accident, Zeekr released a statement on Chinese social media platform Weibo, attributing the incident to mismanagement of the cars on display rather than a fault with the EV itself. The company stated that the powertrains of the vehicles were not in exhibition mode, allowing someone to engage the drive function.

Since the incident, Zeekr has initiated a nationwide review and inspection of other display vehicles to prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
