Introducing the Ford Mustang GTD: A Track-Ready Hyper-Muscle Car
Ford is now accepting applications in the UK for its latest powerhouse, the 800bhp Mustang GTD. Priced at a starting point of £315,000, this supercar surpasses the Porsche 911 GT3 RS in cost and rivals the Ferrari 296 GTB.
Designed for track use, the GTD is undergoing evaluations for road registration in the UK and Europe. If road approval is not granted, it will remain a track-only vehicle in certain markets. Ford plans to release WLTP fuel consumption data before the market launch.
Applications are open until July 19th, with the GTD set to debut in the UK at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Production for European models will commence next spring, although right-hand drive availability is yet to be confirmed.
With a limited production run, the GTD was conceived by a select group of engineers at Ford’s Michigan headquarters. The goal was to create a Mustang capable of challenging top European sports cars.
Ford aims for the GTD to achieve a sub-seven-minute lap time at the Nürburgring, putting it in the same league as supercars like the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.
The GTD boasts over 800bhp from its supercharged V8 engine, making it the most powerful Mustang to date. Its bespoke 5.2-litre engine features motorsport-inspired modifications for exceptional performance.
The chassis of the GTD differs significantly from the standard Mustang, with advanced suspension technology and a unique steering system. The rear-mounted transaxle ensures a balanced weight distribution for optimal handling.
Equipped with Brembo brakes and a high-performance aero package, the GTD offers unmatched stopping power and aerodynamic efficiency. Inside, the focus is on weight reduction, with track-ready seats and 3D-printed titanium components.
While Ford has not disclosed the exact weight of the GTD, its carbon body panels and lightweight construction suggest it will be significantly lighter than other Mustang models.
