Abarth 600: Brand’s Second Hot EV Set to Arrive by 2025

The Abarth 600 EV is set to become the next model to receive the Abarth treatment, as the Italian performance division expands its line-up. This electric hot hatch will follow in the footsteps of the 500e hatchback, becoming Abarth’s second electric car and initiating its first new model line since the 124 Spider bowed out in 2019.

Expected to arrive in early 2025, the Abarth 600e will undoubtedly bring a significant power boost over the standard Fiat model. In the 500e, a more responsive motor increases power and torque to 152bhp and 173lb ft, providing a noticeable improvement over the standard 500. If the 600e receives a similar treatment, it could be armed with around 190bhp and 200lb ft of torque.

Despite being a crossover, the Abarth 600e is expected to offer a Scorpion Track driving mode, similar to its smaller sibling. In its quickest setting, the 600e is likely to achieve a 0-62mph time of around 7.0 seconds, matching the lighter 500e. Abarth has previously stated that while blistering acceleration from rest is not the primary focus of its new-era line-up, it aims to deliver better mid-range performance.

Power for the Abarth 600e will be drawn from the same battery as the regular 600, a 54kWh (51kWh usable) pack. The standard 600 offers a range of 249 miles, but with the added power of the 600e, a real-world range closer to 200 miles is expected. It remains to be seen whether Abarth will add a second motor on the rear axle for improved traction and potency.

In terms of design, the Abarth 600e will feature a range of sporty touches, including bucket seats, an Alcantara-clad steering wheel, distinctive paint options, and bespoke wheel designs. It is even possible that the 600e will incorporate a speaker underneath it, producing a faux engine note to accompany acceleration and appeal to petrolheads.

Looking beyond the Abarth 600e, Fiat CEO Olivier François has confirmed that there will be no more Fiat sports cars, and the brand will not target large or luxury car segments. Fiat’s focus will be on smaller cars and simplicity. François also stated that Fiat will not launch any cars longer than 4.5 meters or shorter than 3.6 meters, closing the door on a successor to the Mazda MX-5-derived Fiat 124 Spider. However, he did leave the possibility open for Abarth to create its own bespoke sports car.

The Abarth 600e is an exciting addition to Abarth’s electric lineup and will offer enthusiasts a driver-focused electric hot hatch with enhanced performance and sporty design elements. With its expected arrival in early 2025, fans of the brand won’t have to wait too long to experience the thrill of this electrified Abarth model. Stay tuned for more updates on this eagerly anticipated electric hot hatch from Abarth.
