Acura’s 2024 ZDX SUV to Feature Google Maps and Play

Acura’s 2024 ZDX all-electric crossover is set to receive Google’s built-in technology, providing drivers with added convenience. The automaker has announced that the ZDX will come with Google Assistant and Google Maps straight from the factory. Drivers can also browse the Google Play Store for auto-approved apps from the infotainment screen.

Optimizing Routes for Charging

The ZDX will come with Google Maps for EVs, which allows owners to optimize their routes for charging. This feature enables drivers to find charging stations along their selected route and receive advice on how long they will have to spend charging on their journey.

Controlling Specific Systems

Google’s app isn’t just passive; it can also control specific systems within the ZDX. For example, the app can precondition the battery if it notices that the driver is headed to a DC fast charging station, helping to reduce charging times.

Voice Control

Drivers will also be able to control certain vehicle functions with their voice via Google Assistant. This feature allows them to make a call, set a reminder, change the temperature inside the vehicle, set their destination, and control various media functions.

Acura’s Vision for the Future

“As Acura moves rapidly toward the electrified and digital future, we’re pleased to offer customers a choice of technology partners by combining embedded Google apps and services with our in-vehicle connectivity to advance the fun and productive ownership experience,” said Raj Manakkal, Assistant Vice President, Digital Services Development for American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Starting with the Acura ZDX and ZDX Type S, we will take class-leading connectivity solutions to the next level by integrating features with Google built-in into future Acura products.”

Additional Features

In addition to Google’s suite of technologies, Acura will also fit the ZDX with a standard digital instrument display behind the steering wheel, a large center touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more. Over-the-air updates will help keep all of the ZDX’s technology up to date.

Co-Development with GM

The new ZDX and ZDX Type S are being co-developed with GM, utilizing the American automaker’s Ultium battery technology. The new EV will be sold exclusively online, starting in 2024.

Incorporating Google’s technology into the ZDX is a significant step for Acura as it moves towards an electrified and digital future. The integration of Google Assistant and Google Maps will provide drivers with added convenience, while the ability to control specific systems and functions with their voice will make driving safer and more enjoyable. With over-the-air updates, Acura can ensure that the ZDX’s technology remains up to date, providing drivers with the latest features and capabilities.
