Lecar 459 Hybrid: A Tesla-Inspired Crossover with Impressive Range

Introduction

A Brazilian startup, Lecar, has unveiled its first model, the Lecar 459 Hybrid. This compact crossover takes inspiration from Tesla and features an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) powertrain, offering a remarkable range of 621 miles. With production set to begin in August 2026, the Lecar 459 Hybrid comes with an affordable price tag of R$147,900 ($26,900).

Design and Specifications

The Lecar 459 Hybrid bears a resemblance to the Tesla Model Y in terms of design. However, it is more compact, measuring 4,350 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Despite its EREV setup and monocoque body, the crossover weighs only 1,396 kg.

Interior and Features

While the interior of the Lecar 459 Hybrid has not been revealed, it is expected to offer a five-seater layout with 530 liters of cargo space. The vehicle will also come equipped with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to achieve Level 2 autonomy.

Powertrain and Performance

The Lecar 459 Hybrid features a powertrain designed for efficiency and affordability. It is equipped with a single electric motor producing 163 hp and 258 Nm of torque, which powers the rear axle. The vehicle also includes a combustion engine that acts as a power generator for the 18.4 kWh battery pack. The turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, sourced from Horse (a joint venture between Renault Group and Geely), delivers 114 hp and 200 Nm of torque. The Lecar 459 Hybrid can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.9 seconds and offers a range of 1,000 km on a full tank of gasoline, with an additional 100 km of electric-only range.

Production and Pricing

Lecar plans to construct a new factory in EspĂrito Santo, Brazil, with production expected to begin in August 2026. The factory will have a capacity of 120,000 cars per year. Horse will supply 12,000 engines for the Lecar 459 Hybrid. The promotional price for Brazilian buyers is R$147,900 ($26,900), and interested customers can join the waiting list with a down payment of R$1,300 ($236).

Conclusion

The Lecar 459 Hybrid offers an affordable and efficient electric crossover option with an impressive range. With its Tesla-inspired design and advanced features, it aims to disrupt the market in Brazil. As Lecar expands its lineup, it will be interesting to see how the brand competes with established automakers in the electric vehicle segment.
