Airplane Crash in Texas: Runway Overshoots, Collides with Hyundai

Driver Collides with Plane in McKinney, Texas

A driver in McKinney, Texas, had a surreal experience over the weekend when their car collided with a plane. The incident took place near Aero County Airport after a prop plane overshot the runway during landing and breached a fence, entering Aero County Road.

Emergency Landing Gone Wrong

The McKinney Fire Department received an unusual call at 12:30 pm on Saturday, November 11. The Lancair IV-P plane, which had flown from Midland, an oil patch city located about 330 miles away, was attempting its first landing at Aero County Airport.

Witnesses provided conflicting accounts of the incident. Some claimed that the plane’s brakes were deficient, while others stated that the pilot mentioned the reverse thrust not working, causing the plane to overshoot the runway.

Investigation Underway

The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the cause of the accident. The fire department suggests that the plane was making an emergency landing, which may explain its inability to slow down.

Minor Injuries Reported

Fortunately, only minor injuries were reported. Three individuals were examined at the scene, including two occupants from the plane and the car’s driver. The driver was the only one taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Despite being shaken, everyone involved is grateful that no one was seriously hurt.

Miraculous Escape Caught on Video

Video footage of the incident shows the plane’s high speed as it collided with the Hyundai Sonata. The fence barely slowed it down, highlighting the magnitude of the impact.

“She was definitely surprised; it’s not something you expect to have happened to you,” said Jack Schneider, who captured the incident on video. “It was completely surreal. I wasn’t expecting it, obviously… Everybody is okay, though, and we’re all thankful that nobody was hurt.”
