Apple’s F1 Movie Starts Filming at Silverstone with Fictional APXGP Car

Apple Studios’ highly anticipated F1-inspired movie, “Apex,” has begun filming ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend. The film stars Brad Pitt as fictional racer Sonny Hayes, a retired F1 driver making a comeback with the backmarker team, Apex GP. Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the same team behind Top Gun: Maverick, the movie aims to capture the essence of the sport with Lewis Hamilton serving as a consultant to ensure authenticity.

Hamilton expressed his excitement about the project during a press conference, stating, “We want everyone to love it and to really feel that we encapsulate what the essence of this sport is all about.” He has been involved in the production process, reviewing camera positions and working closely with the director to ensure the best possible portrayal of Formula 1.

To enhance the realism of the film, an 11th garage has been set up in the pit lane for the fictional Apex GP team, positioned between Mercedes and Ferrari. The garage is fully equipped with toolboxes, front wings, tires, and other essential elements. Each bay features driver banners with the names and photos of the characters. Additionally, the black and gold APXGP car will be filmed on track during the Silverstone race weekend.

However, it is important to note that the movie car will not share the track with the other 20 cars. While there have been rumors that it may participate in the formation/installation laps of Sunday’s race, most shots featuring the movie car alongside actual F1 cars will be added in post-production using CGI. This decision was made due to safety concerns and the significant performance difference between the modified F2 car used in the film and genuine F1 cars.

Despite these limitations, the inclusion of a movie car on track during a live race weekend is a unique proposition that has piqued interest among fans. The modified F2 car with F1-inspired bodywork adds an intriguing element to the movie’s storyline. As the film progresses, viewers will be eager to see how the fictional Apex GP team fares against the established F1 teams.

The involvement of Hollywood A-lister Brad Pitt in the lead role further raises expectations for “Apex.” Pitt’s portrayal of Sonny Hayes, a retired F1 driver making a comeback, promises to be captivating. With the guidance of Lewis Hamilton, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, the film is poised to provide an authentic and thrilling experience for both motorsport enthusiasts and moviegoers.

“Apex” is set to offer a unique blend of action, drama, and adrenaline-pumping racing sequences. The collaboration between Apple Studios, Joseph Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Lewis Hamilton ensures that the film receives the attention it deserves. As fans eagerly await its release, they can anticipate a visually stunning production that captures the essence of Formula 1.

In conclusion, the filming of Apple Studios’ F1-inspired movie, “Apex,” has commenced ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. With Brad Pitt in the lead role and Lewis Hamilton serving as a consultant, the film aims to provide an authentic portrayal of the sport. While the movie car will not share the track with genuine F1 cars, its inclusion adds an exciting element to the storyline. Fans can look forward to a thrilling and visually stunning production that encapsulates the essence of Formula 1.
