Introduction

Arcade Cars, a British start-up, has unveiled its latest creation – a restomod of the iconic Mercedes-Benz 230 GE. Known as the Sojourn, this vehicle combines the timeless appeal of a classic G-Class with the modern features of its contemporary counterpart.

Design and Features

The Sojourn is based on the original long-wheelbase G-Class (W460) and is available in two-door configuration with a soft-top roof. Arcade Cars sources these vehicles from former Swiss Army stock, adding to their exclusivity.

Customers can choose from a range of powertrains, including petrol and electric options. The entry-level model comes equipped with the original 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and four-speed automatic gearbox, delivering 125bhp and 140lb ft of torque to all four wheels.

Arcade Cars also offers a larger 2.8-litre straight-six engine from the contemporary 280 GE. This engine has been modified with a new crankshaft, pistons, and rods, producing 149bhp and 175lb ft of torque.

In addition, an electric version of the Sojourn is currently in development by Everrati, a British firm known for its EV conversions. Everrati has previously worked on projects such as the Porsche 964, Mercedes-Benz SL ‘Pagoda’, and Ford GT40.

The interior of the Sojourn is reupholstered with premium leathers or Alcantara, offering a luxurious and comfortable experience. It features an infotainment touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, as well as a new sound system with a concealed subwoofer.

Pricing and Availability

The Sojourn is priced at $130,000 (£100,000), and deliveries are set to begin later this year. The vehicle will make its debut at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours.

Other Offerings

Arcade Cars also offers the Lion, a two-seater open-top vehicle, sourced from Singaporean Army stock. Additionally, they have plans to release the Shadow, an electric conversion of the original F-body Porsche 911 and 912, powered by a Tesla Model S motor and Volkswagen batteries. The Shadow is expected to offer impressive performance, with a sub-5.0 second 0-62mph time and around 250 miles of range.
