Arkansas State Trooper’s High-Speed Chase in Challenger Hellcat: Public Safety at Risk?

Arkansas State Police Engage in High-Speed Pursuit

Concerns About Safety in High-Speed Chases

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) have demonstrated their ability to engage in high-speed pursuits, but there are concerns about the safety of such chases. In some instances, they mistakenly targeted (and wrecked) the wrong car altogether.

High-Speed Chase of a Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat

In a recent video, the ASP tracked down and apprehended the driver of a Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat. To accomplish this, the trooper involved had to reach speeds exceeding 150 mph (241 km/h). However, this tactic raises significant safety concerns regarding the conduct of high-speed chases.

Safety of Innocent Bystanders

While it is important to hold lawbreakers accountable, the safety of innocent bystanders should always be a priority. The methods used in high-speed pursuits need to be carefully scrutinized to minimize risks to the public.

Trooper Lucas’ Dashcam Footage

Trooper Blayn Lucas of the ASP captured dashcam footage while patrolling on the highway. The video shows two cars, including an unidentified vehicle and a Dodge Challenger, speeding by him in what appeared to be the aftermath of a street race.

Dangerous Maneuvers and Near Crashes

Trooper Lucas engaged in a high-speed pursuit, reaching speeds over 130 mph (209 km/h) while navigating through traffic. At one point, he narrowly avoided crashing into two tractor-trailers, approaching them at 151 mph (243 km/h). He also encountered a close call while taking a corner at speeds exceeding 100 mph (160 km/h), causing other drivers to veer off the road to avoid a potential collision.

Successful Apprehension and Potential Risks

Despite the dangerous maneuvers, Trooper Lucas successfully used the PIT maneuver to force the Dodge Challenger Hellcat off the road and into a guard rail. The driver had a passenger in the vehicle who pleaded for the driver to stop. Fortunately, this incident resulted in minimal damage to the Hellcat and an arrest. However, it highlights the potential risks involved in high-speed pursuits. Additionally, the second car involved in the street race seems to have been overlooked by the ASP.
