“Aston Martin DB12: Importance of Fine-Tuning”

The upcoming Aston Martin DB12 is generating a lot of excitement among car enthusiasts, and for good reason. There are two key factors that suggest this new model will be a standout in terms of driving experience. Firstly, the recent release of the Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate provides a strong indication of what we can expect from the DB12. Although the two models belong to different lines, they share the same platform, which means that the DBS offers valuable insights into how the DB12 will perform. The 770 Ultimate is an exceptional car, thanks to its small optimisations that enhance precision and pliancy, as well as its powertrain that is more exploitable than ever before. The guiding philosophy of the car is close to perfect, and it is likely that the learnings from the 770 Ultimate will be carried forward into the DB12. However, it should be noted that the DB12 will feature a Vantage-style e-diff, which may not be as predictable or effective as the fully mechanical part used in the DBS.

The second reason to be optimistic about the DB12 is related to the loss of the twin-turbo V12 engine. While it may seem counter-intuitive, the V8 version of the Aston Martin DB11 was actually sweeter to drive than its larger sibling. This was partly due to the fact that the Mercedes-AMG engine in the DB11 was the first Aston Martin that chief engineer Matt Becker worked on, resulting in a superior chassis setup that was later applied to the V12 version. However, the smaller engine also made the car more vivacious and accurate on the road. The DB12’s lighter wheel-and-tyre package and stiffer front edge should further enhance its performance.

Aston Martin is known for taking a few years to fully optimise its products, but there is a sense that the DB12 could be a standout straight out of the box. With the guiding philosophy of the DBS 770 Ultimate and the improved performance of the V8 engine, the DB12 is poised to deliver an exceptional driving experience that will satisfy even the most discerning car enthusiasts.
