Crash Details
One of the Aston Martin Vantage Safety Cars used in Formula 1 was crashed by experienced racer Bernd Maylander in preparation for this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix. Dramatic video footage shows the car snaking slightly before Maylander initiates a Scandinavian Flick, causing the car to spin and crash into the barriers at high speed.
Investigation Ongoing
Aston Martin is currently investigating the cause of the crash and has not yet provided an official explanation.
Improved Safety Car
The Aston Martin Vantage shares F1 Safety Car duties with the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. The updated Vantage Safety Car features a twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an additional 153 hp and 85 lb-ft of torque. The previous version of the Vantage had received complaints from F1 drivers for being too slow compared to the Mercedes-AMG.
