Audi Revamps NSU Prinz with 240 HP Electric Upgrade

Audi’s Neckarsulm production site has unveiled an impressive restomod project, showcasing a modernized and electrified version of the NSU Prinz 4. This project pays homage to the history of Audi, formerly known as Auto Union, and the NSU brand that was merged with it in 1969. The NSU Prinz 4, a cute two-door car, serves as the foundation for this remarkable transformation, celebrating the 105th anniversary of the factory.

The first major change in this restomod project is the powertrain. The original two-cylinder engine with 30 horsepower has been replaced with a powerful 240 horsepower electric motor sourced from an Audi e-tron. Additionally, the car now features the same battery pack found in the hybrid Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro, replacing the fuel tank that was originally installed.

But the modifications don’t end there. The car now sits on a modified floor pan from an Audi A1, providing a solid foundation for the rest of the changes. The body has been modified and widened, while still maintaining the distinctive shoulder and roof lines of the original Prinz 4. Eye-catching 3D printed fender flares and rally-inspired aero disc wheels with wide tires enhance the exterior aesthetics. The car has been painted in a combination of Suzuka Grey and Brilliant Black, further enhancing its modern appeal.

While Audi has not released any images of the car’s interior, they have provided some details. The interior features a Signal Yellow roll cage for added safety and a pair of Recaro Podium bucket seats for a sporty touch. The instrument panel and gauges are consolidated into a single display, providing a clean and modern look.

Timo Engler, the head of training vehicle technology/logistics at Audi, expressed his excitement about the project. He stated that it provided apprentices with an opportunity to work with different techniques and materials, such as 3D printing and carbon fiber. Engler emphasized that this project allowed the apprentices to explore the technologies of the future while paying homage to Audi’s rich history.

This restomod project by Audi showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation and preserving its heritage. By transforming the NSU Prinz 4 into a modern and electrified vehicle, Audi demonstrates its ability to combine classic design elements with cutting-edge technology. This project serves as a testament to Audi’s dedication to pushing boundaries and creating unique vehicles that capture the imagination of car enthusiasts.

In conclusion, Audi’s restomod project at the Neckarsulm production site presents an impressive transformation of the NSU Prinz 4. With a powerful electric motor, a modified body, and modern interior touches, this project showcases Audi’s ability to blend the past with the future. As Audi continues to innovate and push boundaries, car enthusiasts can look forward to more exciting projects that pay homage to the brand’s rich history while embracing the technologies of tomorrow.
