BMW 1 Series 2015-2019 Review | Giga Gears

Is the BMW 1 Series a Smart Used Buy?

The BMW 1 Series, despite its smaller cabin size compared to competitors, has been a consistent top-seller in the UK for many years. The 2015 mid-life update brought new engines, a fresh look, and added equipment to this rear-wheel-drive hatchback.

Powerful and efficient engine options were introduced in 2015, including the 116d Efficient Dynamics Plus with a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine. The petrol options like the 118i with a 1.5-litre triple and the 120i with a 2.0-litre four were also popular choices. The M135i was replaced by the M140i in 2016, offering more power at better fuel efficiency.

The 2018 update included the latest eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic gearbox as standard on the 120i and M140i models. The facelift improved the overall look of the 1 Series, with updated headlights, grille, and LED lights.

The interior of the 1 Series may seem cluttered to some, but it offers excellent material quality and build. Trim options like SE, Sport, and M Sport cater to different preferences, with each offering unique features like sports suspension and upgraded brakes.

While the rear of the cabin may lack headroom, the five-door version provides more practicality than the three-door model. The boot space is slightly smaller than competitors but still adequate at 360 litres.

Overall, the BMW 1 Series may have its flaws, but with a range of engine options and trim levels to choose from, it remains a compelling choice for those seeking a sporty hatchback.
