BMW to Launch New i1 and i2 Electric Models in 2027

BMW is set to introduce new electric models, the i1 and i2, alongside updated versions of the current 1 Series and 2 Series. These new models will cater to customers looking for more affordable options in BMW’s electric car lineup, with the i1 expected to be available as a hatchback or a saloon, and the i2 as a compact crossover with a coupe option.

The i2 is seen as a spiritual successor to BMW’s first electric car, the i3 hatchback. BMW remains committed to its 1 Series and 2 Series, aiming to connect with a younger generation of customers. The company plans to launch the electric i1 in 2027 and the sportier i2 in 2028.

These new models will be based on BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, designed specifically for electric vehicles. The platform supports various electric drivetrains and will offer options for front- or four-wheel drive. The architecture will also introduce new cylindrical battery cells for improved performance.

BMW’s Neue Klasse range is set to launch in 2025, with plans to build six new electric cars within the following 24 months. The company aims to unify its portfolio with a new styling theme and next-generation software and connectivity features across all future models.

With the introduction of the i1 and i2, BMW is poised to expand its electric vehicle offerings and appeal to a wider range of customers.
