BMW Group is undergoing a major staff shuffle in its design operations, with Domagoj Dukec taking over as the new director of design at Rolls-Royce. Dukec will replace Anders Warming, who has been leading Rolls-Royce’s design department for the past three years. Warming will now head the BMW Group’s global Designworks operation, which focuses on future mobility across the company’s entire portfolio.

New Roles for Warming and Dukec

Anders Warming has played a crucial role in the design of various Rolls-Royce models, including the Spectre, Cullinan, Phantom, and Droptail. His expertise and creativity have greatly influenced the brand’s aesthetic direction. On the other hand, Dukec is a well-known figure in the automotive industry, having served as the design chief at BMW for over 14 years. Under his leadership, BMW has undergone a significant transformation in terms of its car designs, particularly with the introduction of bold new grilles.

Additional Changes in BMW Group Design

Alongside the appointments of Warming and Dukec, BMW Group Design has made several other significant changes. Maximillian Missoni, former Polestar designer, has been hired to lead the design of upper mid-size and luxury-class BMW models, including those from the Alpina brand. Oliver Heilmer, head designer at Mini, will now oversee the design of smaller and mid-size BMW cars, including those from the M performance division. Heilmer will be replaced at Mini by Holger Hampf.

Future Plans for Rolls-Royce

Rolls-Royce CEO Chris Brownridge praised Warming for his substantial and lasting impact on the brand. While the next production car from Rolls-Royce has not been announced yet, the company is working on an update package for the Ghost and has plans to focus on future electric vehicles as it aims to become all-electric by 2030.

Overall, these changes in design leadership at BMW Group reflect the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving demands of future-oriented design in the automotive industry.
