BMW i4 Chassis Flaw Recall: Potential Serious Damage | Giga Gears

BMW Recalls Certain i4 Models Due to Chassis Flaw

BMW i4 Recalled For Chassis Flaw That Could Cause Serious Damage

BMW has issued a recall for 1,150 vehicles in the United States due to a chassis flaw affecting certain i4 models. This recall follows a previous recall related to battery issues in i4 and i5 models. The affected models include the BMW i4 eDrive40, i4 xDrive40, and i4 M50.

Chassis Defect May Lead to Deformation and Risk of Injury

The recall is a result of BMW’s discovery that the left-side longitudinal beam of the i4’s chassis may contain cracks near the rivet flange used to support the rear wheel arch. This defect can potentially cause excess chassis deformation in the event of a crash, posing a risk of injury to occupants and increasing the risk of fire.

Recall Details and Notification

The recall affects 2024 BMW i4 eDrive40, i4 xDrive40, and i4 M50 models manufactured between March 7, 2024, and April 25, 2024. BMW initially contained all affected vehicles and repaired them before distribution. However, additional i4s with the same flaw were identified outside the previously suspect range.

Owners of the affected models will be notified of the recall by October 7, 2024, through first-class mail. They will be instructed to take their vehicles to a local BMW dealer for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the left-side longitudinal beam. The duration of the repairs is not specified in the recall notice.

BMW has not received any reports of warranty claims, customer complaints, field reports, accidents, or injuries related to the chassis flaw.

For more information about the recall, owners can visit the official BMW website or contact their local BMW dealer.
