As autumn settles in, BMW has rolled out a series of updates for its 2024 lineup, featuring new powertrains and enhanced charging capabilities across several models. This seasonal refresh may be modest, but it brings significant improvements that enthusiasts and eco-conscious drivers alike will appreciate.

## Key Updates Across the Lineup

– **New Powertrains**: The 1-Series, 5-Series, and i5 models are receiving fresh powertrain options.
– **Faster Charging**: Plug-in hybrids, including the M5, benefit from reduced recharging times.
– **Enhanced M135 xDrive**: A new M Technology Package is set to elevate performance.

## 1-Series Enhancements

The entry-level **1-Series** is introducing a new **116 variant** equipped with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 121 hp (90 kW / 122 PS) and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque. This model features a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 9.8 seconds.

Additionally, the new **123 xDrive** variant boasts an electrified four-cylinder powertrain, producing a combined output of 215 hp (160 kW / 218 PS), allowing it to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 6.3 seconds.

### M135 xDrive Upgrades

Starting in November, the **M135 xDrive** will receive a new M Technology Package. This upgrade includes lightweight aluminum anti-roll bars, enhanced front shocks, and underfloor braces for improved steering precision. The package also features 19-inch forged wheels with sport tires and M Compound brakes, along with extended Shadowline exterior trim and illuminated M Sport seats.

The 1-Series lineup will also see the addition of new color options, including Fire Red metallic and BMW Individual Tanzanite Blue metallic, alongside a fresh 19-inch wheel design.

## New Touring Models: 520i and 550e xDrive

For wagon enthusiasts, BMW introduces the **520i Touring**, equipped with a four-cylinder petrol engine featuring 48V mild hybrid technology. This model generates a combined output of 205 hp (153 kW / 208 PS) and 243 lb-ft (330 Nm) of torque, achieving 0-62 mph in 7.8 seconds.

The **550e xDrive Touring** joins the lineup with a robust plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.0-liter petrol engine with an electric motor. This setup delivers a remarkable 483 hp (360 kW / 489 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque, allowing it to sprint to 62 mph in just 4.4 seconds, with an electric-only range of 51-56 miles (82-90 km).

### Eco-Friendly i5 xDrive40 Touring

The new **i5 xDrive40 Touring** features an 81.2 kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor all-wheel drive system, generating 389 hp (290 kW / 394 PS) and 435 lb-ft (590 Nm) of torque. This electric wagon can reach 62 mph in 5.5 seconds and offers a range of 281 to 323 miles (452 to 520 km) on a single charge.

## M5 and Other PHEVs Receive Charging Boost

The **M5**, along with the X5 xDrive50e and other plug-in hybrid versions of the 5-Series, are set to benefit from increased AC charging capacity, rising from 7.4 kW to 11 kW. This enhancement significantly reduces recharging times, allowing the M5 to achieve a full charge approximately one hour faster than before.

## Software and Tech Updates

Beyond hardware improvements, BMW is also focusing on software enhancements. The latest updates include optimized digital key sharing, in-car gaming, and video streaming capabilities for models such as the X5, X6, X7, XM, iX, and 7-Series. The BMW Operating System 9 will also receive tweaks to simplify the process of locating high-speed charging stations.

As BMW continues to innovate and enhance its vehicle offerings, these fall updates promise to deliver improved performance, efficiency, and technology for drivers around the globe. Stay tuned for more exciting developments from BMW as they push the boundaries of automotive excellence.
