Shedding Weight with M Performance Parts

The new BMW M5 Touring is a heavy brute of a thing, tipping the scales at a massive 5,530 lbs (2,508 kg). Those keen to shed a little weight from the super estate now have a series of special M Performance Parts to choose from, although no amount of carbon fiber will be able to hide the car’s heft.

Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser and Front Splitter

  • Among the parts offered are a carbon fiber rear diffuser and front splitter.
  • Shoppers can also choose tailpipes made from a mix of titanium and carbon fiber.
  • The 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged hybridized V8 with 717 hp remains untouched.

Enhancing the Exterior

One of the biggest pieces offered for the M5 Touring is a two-section carbon fiber rear diffuser. It makes the rear-end of the car look that much more aggressive and can be paired with a set of unique tailpipe trims made from a combination of titanium and carbon.

Interior Options

Buyers of the new M5 Touring also have some interior options. For example, four-piece floor mats with leather-look edging and decorative stitching are offered. An Alcantara and carbon fiber key case is another option, as are M Performance tire bags.

A Powerful Performer

None of these accessories promise any performance gains, but as it is, the M5 Touring is already hugely impressive. The combination of a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 and a hybrid system allow it to produce a combined 717 hp and 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque, making it quite a performer.
