BMW Z4 GTLM: A Vintage Race Car Experience

BMW Z4 GTLM

Introduction

BMW’s 2023 Test Fest event provided an exclusive opportunity for Carscoops to experience some of the latest and
most remarkable vehicles from the brand. In addition to driving modern cars, participants were also given the
chance to ride shotgun in BMW’s “vintage” race cars. This article takes a closer look at the thrilling experience
of riding in a 2015 Z4 GTLM, one of only two such cars in existence.

A Piece of Racing History

The Z4 GTLM, specifically car number 24 and chassis 1502, achieved three podium finishes during the 2015 TUDOR
United SportsCar Championship with drivers Lucas Luhr and John Edwards. What sets this car apart is its rarity
and unique livery inspired by the iconic BMW 3.0 CSL, which secured BMW’s first victory in North America at the
12 Hours of Sebring four decades ago.

Technical Specifications

The Z4 GTLM is based on the GT3 customer race car, which itself draws inspiration from the Z4 Roadster. However,
the GTLM variant features several significant modifications compared to both the GT3 car and the street version.
While both the GT3 and GTLM models utilize a 4.4-liter V8 engine, the former produces around 500 hp (373 kW),
whereas the latter generates a slightly lower output of 480 hp (357 kW).

The Thrill of the Track

During the event, our driver insisted on warming up the tires before taking us on the track. His caution proved
valid when we spun out on the first lap. Interestingly, this was the only incident involving any of the vintage
race cars throughout the day. Despite the initial mishap, the rest of the ride was exhilarating. The BMW
Performance Center offers various track configurations, and the one we experienced featured long straights,
challenging corners, and exciting elevation changes. Keep an eye out for a BMW M3 GT2 passing us at full speed
in the video.

Conclusion

The BMW Z4 GTLM delivers an unforgettable vintage race car experience. From its historical significance to its
thrilling performance on the track, this car showcases BMW’s commitment to motorsport excellence. Sit back,
relax, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Z4 GTLM in action.
