BMW’s New Electric Vehicle: 2 Wheels, $7,599

BMW Motorrad Introduces the Affordable and Stylish CE 02 Electric Bike

BMW Motorrad is making waves in the electric bike market with the release of their latest offering, the CE 02. This affordable electric bike is unlike anything else on the market, as it defies categorization as either an e-scooter or an e-motorcycle. Instead, it is being billed as an eParkourer, a unique blend of style and functionality.

Design and Features

The CE 02 takes inspiration from its predecessor, the CE 04, and features a minimalist design that is sure to turn heads. It boasts a tubular steel frame, a die-cast aluminum swingarm, and 14-inch wheels. LED lighting units and a flat, two-person seat that sits just 29.5 inches off the ground complete the sleek look.

The bike comes in a black theme with granite grey contrasts. However, for those looking to add a pop of color, the optional Highline Package offers gold forks, a tri-color seat, and wheel decals.

The cockpit of the CE 02 is designed with simplicity in mind. Riders will find a 3.5-inch display that provides basic information such as speed and battery charge status. The bike also comes equipped with a USB-C charging port and Keyless Ride technology for added convenience.

For those who opt for the Highline package, heated grips and a smartphone cradle are included. The smartphone cradle works in conjunction with an app to turn smartphones into a secondary vehicle display.

Performance and Charging

The CE 02 is powered by two removable 1.96 kWh lithium-ion battery packs. These batteries supply power to an electric motor that develops 15 hp and 41 lb-ft of torque. With this setup, the bike can accelerate from 0-30 mph in just three seconds and reach a top speed of 59 mph. It also boasts a range of over 56 miles in the World Motorcycle Test Cycle.

In Europe, there will be a low output variant of the CE 02 with 5 hp and a top speed of 28 mph. This variant is designed to meet the requirements of the AM driving license class and can be ridden by individuals as young as 15 years old.

Charging the CE 02 is a breeze with two different external chargers available. These chargers can be used with household outlets and have capacities of 0.9 kW or 1.5 kW. The standard charger can take the bike from a 20-80% charge in 170 minutes, while a full 0-100% charge will take 330 minutes. The Highline package includes the faster charger, reducing the 20-80% charge time to 140 minutes and the 0-100% charge time to 290 minutes.

Pricing and Availability

In the United States, the BMW CE 02 will have a starting price of $7,599 before factoring in the $595 destination charge. A range of accessories will also be available, including an anti-theft alarm and side cases.

Conclusion

With the introduction of the CE 02, BMW Motorrad is once again pushing the boundaries of electric mobility. This affordable and stylish electric bike offers a unique riding experience that is sure to appeal to a wide range of riders. Whether you’re looking for a fun and efficient way to commute or simply want to enjoy the thrill of riding an electric bike, the CE 02 is worth considering.
