Cadillac Escalade Diesel Struggles with Low Demand

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade Drops Diesel Engine Option

GM Responds to Lackluster Demand

During a recent media briefing, Cadillac officials announced that the facelifted 2025 Cadillac Escalade will no longer be offered with a diesel engine option. General Motors made the decision to drop the Duramax engine due to lackluster demand in the market.

Gas-Only Option for Escalade

While the Cadillac Escalade will now be gas-only, the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban models will offer an upgraded diesel engine option. The 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline-six engine, known for its performance, will not be available in the new Escalade.

Improved Diesel Engine for Tahoe and Suburban

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban will feature an improved 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel engine with upgrades such as new pistons, higher-flow fuel injectors, and a retuned turbo compressor. These enhancements will boost the engine’s output to 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque.

Industry Shift Away from Diesel

While it is disappointing that the Escalade will no longer offer the diesel engine option, it reflects a broader industry trend away from diesel powertrains. General Motors has already phased out diesel options in other models like the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, while Stellantis has also discontinued their EcoDiesel models.
