Recall Details

  • GM is aware of two reports of incidents caused by an ABS software fault.
  • The recall impacts 21,469 Lyriqs built from December 14, 2022, to August 5, 2024.
  • Most Lyriqs will be fixed using an over-the-air software update.

Issue with ABS System

Documents submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveal that certain 2023-2024 Lyriq AWD models may have been fitted with an overly sensitive ABS. GM states that during braking events on dry surfaces below 25 mph, the ABS could falsely activate and may continue to release braking pressure.

Potential Safety Risk

A release of braking pressure could reduce the performance of the brakes or prevent them from working altogether, posing a serious safety risk and increasing the chance of a crash. The issue is caused by a software defect in the electronic brake control module.

Recalled Vehicles

A total of 21,469 Cadillac Lyriqs delivered for the 2023-2024 model years and assembled between December 14, 2022, and August 5, 2024, are impacted by the recall.

Resolution

Dealers were notified of the recall on August 8, while owners will be informed from September 23. Lyriq owners who have enabled over-the-air updates will receive new software to resolve the fault. Other owners can schedule an appointment at a local GM dealer for the new software installation.

Strong Demand for the Lyriq

Demand for the Lyriq has been strong this year, with sales up 465% year over year and a 441% increase in June compared to the same month in 2023. In the second quarter of this year, Cadillac sold 7,294 Lyriqs, making it the brand’s second best-selling model.
