Lucid CEO Confirms Plans for UK Launch

American electric vehicle (EV) company Lucid is preparing to enter the UK market within the next two years. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson revealed this information during an interview at the LA Motor Show, where the company unveiled its latest model, the Gravity SUV. Rawlinson stated that while the UK launch is a priority, it will require 18-24 months for development and to ensure right-hand drive compatibility.

Lucid Air’s Potential in the UK Market

Rawlinson emphasized the significant demand for premium electric vehicles, particularly the Lucid Air, in certain European markets. He highlighted Germany and the UK as two major markets that surpass others in terms of luxury EV demand. This market potential has motivated Lucid to prioritize the development of the Gravity SUV and subsequent models before focusing on entering the UK market.

Lucid’s Expansion Plans and Future Models

In addition to the Lucid Air, Lucid is also working on mid-sized models that are expected to be launched around 2027 with a starting price of approximately $50,000. The development of these models is already underway. Rawlinson acknowledged the challenges of introducing a right-hand drive version of the Lucid Air, estimating that it would take at least 18 months to complete. He dismissed the possibility of offering a left-hand drive version in the UK due to low demand and the logistical challenges it would pose for servicing customers across the country.

Lucid’s Commitment to the UK Market

Despite the development timeline, Rawlinson confirmed that Lucid is committed to entering the UK market. He expressed his desire to be present in his home country and stated that a UK launch would not be limited to the Lucid Air but would also include the Gravity SUV.

“We are coming to the UK. It’s just a matter of when. I have to be there – I’m British,” Rawlinson affirmed.
