Caterham and RAF Collaborate to Build Unique Seven 360R Track Toy

In a joint effort to support injured servicemen and women, Caterham and the Royal Air Force have teamed up to create a one-of-a-kind Seven 360R. This special car, built using components from a retired military helicopter, is set to be auctioned off through Collecting Cars with the goal of raising funds for charitable causes.

Tribute to the RAF Puma Helicopter

The Seven 360R is a tribute to the Aérospatiale Puma support helicopter, with its body panels and rear bulkhead taken directly from the aircraft. The car’s design pays homage to the Puma’s service history, with its Nato Green body finish and Desert Sand chassis color representing the regions where the helicopter operated.

Unique Features and Design Elements

The 360R features soundproofing from the Puma lining its door panels and transmission tunnel, as well as carbon fiber seats stitched with evacuation instructions from the helicopter. The car also boasts military-grade switchgear, a bespoke dashboard, and a navigation clock in the center console.

Performance and Power

Powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder Ford Duratec engine, the 360R delivers 180bhp and 143lb ft of torque through a five-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. With a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds and a top speed of 130mph, this track toy offers a thrilling driving experience.

Auction Details and Debut

The unique Caterham Seven 360R will make its public debut at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Bidding for the car will open on August 15th and close on September 12th, with all proceeds going to Mission Motorsport and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

Caterham CEO Bob Laishley expressed his excitement for the project, highlighting the collaborative effort between Caterham and RAF engineers. This innovative build marks the first time a Seven has been constructed using recycled helicopter parts, making it a truly special creation for a worthy cause.
