Chery Introduces All-Electric Omoda E5 SUV in Australia

Chery is expanding its Omoda 5 sub-compact SUV lineup in Australia with the launch of the all-electric Omoda E5. This new model is expected to hit showrooms by mid-year.

Electric Powertrain

The Omoda E5 will come equipped with a single electric motor that produces 150 kW (201 hp) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque. While specific details about the battery size have not been disclosed, it is estimated to offer an efficiency of 15.5 kWh/100 km and a WLTP range of up to 430 km (267 miles). The overseas models feature a 61 kWh battery pack and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.6 seconds.

Model Variants

Chery will offer two versions of the Omoda E5: Standard and Premium. Both models are expected to feature a range of advanced features including a 12.3-inch curved infotainment display, panoramic sunroof, digital instrument cluster, and various exterior and interior color options.

Pricing and Availability

Visually similar to its combustion-powered counterpart, the Omoda E5 features a large flap that conceals the charging port in place of a traditional grille. While pricing details have not been released, it is anticipated that the electric variant will come at a premium compared to the ICE model, which starts at AU$32,990 (~$21,300) and goes up to AU$35,990 (~$23,300).
