Christian Horner: RB17 Features All the Best F1 Elements | Giga Gears

Red Bull’s Christian Horner Talks RB17 Hypercar: A Track Demon with Road Potential

Red Bull Technology boss Christian Horner is excited about the new RB17 hypercar, calling it a blend of all the best elements removed from Formula 1. He believes that the car, created by lead engineer Adrian Newey, could potentially be adapted for road use.

Unleashed from the usual constraints of FIA regulations and cost caps, Newey was able to create a performance beast in the RB17. While rival F1 teams have road-legal hypercar projects, like the Mercedes-AMG One and Aston Martin Valkyrie, the RB17 is designed exclusively for track use.

Horner acknowledged that Red Bull is not an automotive manufacturer, limiting its production capabilities. However, he mentioned the possibility of conversion houses making the RB17 road-legal if desired.

With only 50 units planned for production, the RB17 serves as a halo car for Red Bull. Horner emphasized that the focus remains on building grand prix cars and complementing F1 rather than being distracted by other projects.

Although Ford declined collaboration on the RB17 due to its V10 engine not aligning with their EV criteria, Horner is open to the idea of racing the hypercar. While plans for Le Mans are not confirmed, Horner expressed interest in seeing the RB17 on the track.

Owners of the RB17 will receive bespoke track preparation support, ensuring that the cars are not just collector’s items. Horner hinted at some iconic owners on the list, with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay possibly among them.

In conclusion, the RB17 hypercar represents Red Bull’s commitment to high-performance engineering and motorsport excellence.
