Mini Introduces JCW Trim for Gasoline-Powered Cooper S

Introduction

Mini has expanded its John Cooper Works (JCW) lineup by introducing a new trim for the gasoline-powered Cooper S. This JCW trim offers sporty exterior and interior enhancements, although it does not provide any performance upgrades beyond the standard Cooper S. It serves as a precursor to the upcoming fully-fledged JCW variants, both electric and gasoline-powered.

Exterior Enhancements

The JCW trim features subtle exterior upgrades, including a sharper front splitter, a new rear diffuser, and a high-gloss black grille adorned with the John Cooper Works emblem. The black accents on the aero components, roof, and mirror caps further enhance its sporty appearance. Exclusive 17 or 18-inch alloy wheel designs and black brake calipers with the JCW logo differentiate the JCW trim from the standard Cooper S.

Interior Design

The JCW Trim boasts new sport seats upholstered in a blend of synthetic leather and multicolored knit fabric with red accents. The dashboard features a black and red checkered flag-inspired knitted surface, adding to the sporty theme. The rest of the interior, including the circular OLED infotainment display and the configurable Mini Experience Modes, remains unchanged from the Cooper S.

Performance

Under the hood, the JCW trim is powered by the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 201 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, allowing for a 0-62 mph acceleration in 6.6 seconds.

Pricing and Availability

Mini has not yet revealed the pricing for the Cooper S JCW Trim. However, it serves as a preview for the upcoming full-blown JCW model, which is set to launch this fall. The JCW model will offer a more powerful 2.0-liter engine and a sharpened chassis, providing a significant performance boost. Mini has also confirmed the release of a JCW version of the electric hatch, expanding its lineup beyond the existing Mini Cooper SE JCW Trim.
