Cupra Terramar: A New SUV with Aggressive Styling and Sporty Chassis

Cupra Terramar

Introduction

Cupra, the Spanish automaker, is expanding its model lineup with the all-new Terramar. This SUV is set to compete in Europe’s highly competitive compact SUV segment. With its aggressive styling and sporty chassis setup, the Cupra Terramar offers a range of gasoline, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Exterior Design

The Cupra Terramar adopts the latest styling language of the brand, featuring aggressive headlights, a sharp nose with big bumper intakes, and full-width LED taillights. The sculpted bodywork is unique to the Cupra Terramar, giving it a distinctive look.

Interior Features

Inside the Terramar, you’ll find a dashboard layout similar to the VW Tiguan, but with Cupra-specific features that enhance its sporty and premium appeal. The SUV is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch infotainment system with an illuminated touch slider, a head-up display, and an available 12-speaker audio system by Sennheiser. The standard bucket seats are upholstered in upcycled textile or a combination of recycled textile and leather.

Sporty Chassis and Electrified Powertrains

The Cupra Terramar rides on the MQB Evo architecture, which it shares with models like the VW Tiguan, Skoda Kodiaq, and Passat. However, Cupra has fine-tuned the chassis setup for sportier driving dynamics. The SUV features a standard sport suspension that sits 10 mm lower than related models, Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system, standard progressive steering, an electrical Brake Booster, and available Akebono brakes.

Powering the Terramar are various powertrain options. The lineup includes a mild-hybrid 1.5 eTSI with 148 hp, a non-electrified 2.0-liter TSI with 201 hp or 261 hp, and two plug-in hybrid powertrains generating 201 hp and 268 hp respectively. The plug-in hybrids offer over 100 km of EV range and support DC charging of up to 50 kW.

Manufacturing and Availability

The Cupra Terramar was designed and developed in Barcelona, Spain, and will be manufactured in Audi’s Gyor plant in Hungary. Deliveries of the Terramar are scheduled to begin in early 2025. Pricing details will be announced closer to the market launch. Cupra will also release a special launch edition called the Cupra Terramar America’s Cup, with unique styling cues and a limited production of 1,337 units.
